    Please be careful with home inspectors who depend upon realtor referrals. Alas, realtor referrals allow sub-standard home inspectors to prosper because their success in business doesn't depend upon doing a good and comprehensive job. Actually, it can be just the opposite.

    Ask your friends and co-workers and you're sure to hear a few realtor-referred home inspector stories that will scare you.

     — Please don't be impressed by this — it is easy to get a NYS home inspector's license and this information is here because NYS law requires that I post my NYS license ID number on this website. So there. Now I've done that and can go back to telling you about credentials that are true indications of my ability to serve you expertly.

This certification is a significant accomplishment and is conferred by the ICC to attest to comprehensive technical expertise and a vast knowledge of the construction codes and standards used by building professionals.

The International Code Council (ICC), the largest building and safety code organization, is dedicated to protecting the property, health and safety of people worldwide and develops the most widely referenced building codes for residential and commercial buildings.   • I am certified by the New York State Department of State as a New York State Building and Residential Code Enforcement Official. This certification is granted after the successfully completed 126 hours of Department of State training and six 1½ hour exams. I order to keep this certification I am required to receive an additional 24 hours of yearly Department of State approved NYS code enforcement training.

  • I was chosen to serve on the American Society of Home Inspector's (ASHI) prestigious National Technical Committee. This important 8 member committee conducts technical reviews for ASHI. This committee work furnished me with a thorough and extensive base of current, academically defensible technical knowledge of building science.

  • I currently serve on ASHI's Committee for Ethical and Professional Practices. This committee oversees questions of proper and ethical home inspector and client relationships based on ASHI's famous Code of Ethics.

  • I have passed the National Home Inspector Examination given by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors. This 4 hour examination is a closed book and proctored exam. (I make a big deal about it being a closed book exam because of the many "certified" and New York State licensed home inspectors who claim to be able to serve you adequately based upon having passed a notoriously easy online exam.)

  • I am a building science technical educator and speaker and have spoken on technical topics at a national home inspection educational conference and at various local training meetings. I am also the Home Inspection Licensing Course instructor for Ulster County (NY) BOCES and am a NYS Department of State approved home inspection educator.

  • I am certified by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as a Commercial Pesticide Technician in Category 7C (Termites).

    Home and Building Inspection
    A methodical investigation of your building's condition followed by a written report. The inspection is performed in compliance with the Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics of the American Society of Home Inspectors and will include the foundation, framing, basement, crawl spaces, garage, roofs, kitchens, bathrooms, interior rooms, attics, plumbing, heating, cooling and electrical systems.

    If you are the buyer in a real estate transaction, the home inspection will help you make an informed purchasing decision.

    If you are a home seller a pre-sale home inspection will give you the opportunity to repair or disclose the items that the buyer's home inspector may find. This will help minimize the chance of a delay in the sale which, by the way, is MUCH more expensive than a pre-sale home inspection.

    If you are a homeowner a home inspection will give you valuable information about your home's current maintenance and repair needs from an expert who is not selling you a home improvement product.
